about

Hawker Reunion are predominantly physically, spiritually, and sexually, Gareth Price & Brynn Chappell

This record was written, played, sung, and generally bashed into shape by Hawker Reunion but they also had a lot of help from some pretty wonderful people who all went far and above and beyond just for the plain old love of it; as you listen please applaud them for they are the golden cogs in his rusty old machine of ours.

The person we should thank most of all is our dear friend Pete Schwier. Pete has been our shepherd and musical canary for a long time. When we contacted him way back when to ask if he would be interested in recording our collection of songs it was such a lovely surprise to hear his voice as excited as us about the project. Two days in the Hackney later and the main body of recording was complete, three of us in a room, along with Pete was a blur, the journey home a
car full of smiles, like something we had been carrying around had been gently lifted from us.

It was quite something; and then months later to be in his house watching as he moved the faders his ears twitching like a pitch perfect elf. Then treating us to dinner with his lovely family, while Pete held host with stories of working with Dexy's and staying up all night working on Yes bass lines.

Somewhere in there we both dug in at home and gathered with a few friends to add the finishing touches.

Christian Madden played keys, both vintage and laptop, Nicky Madden blew pretty and raucous down a saxophone into a micronophone.
Elle Mary sang her heart out as she always does, Bob Dinn took time out from teaching filthy ragged school kids the magic secrets of algebra to channel Louis with both muted and wide open cornet wonderfulness. Sam Morris flooded our living room with French Horn softness and turned our guitar lines into something rather special indeed. Becki Pickles threw herself into her vocals lines like it was the end of days, Chris Hillman's lap steel- warmed up for his Bragg tour with glacial lines , a local vocal group called 'The D20 Rollers (Kenny Beer, Richard Fletcher, Mark Price and Ian Hawthorne) put their charisma to a +6 for the night to role play a pub full of Dwarven rabble-rousers.

All these people, lovely people.

Paul Fleishman as always provided vocals, recording advice, instruments and a mean sense of adventure, also a big pink drum that Levon Helm would have been proud to play. Shine on you crazy Fleishman.

They're breaking thought the doors and will soon be here,

Yours, arrrrrrrrrrggggggggg....
